First the news part:
It's official, the editor of eXtasy emailed me this morning saying that my fantasy/sci-fi/erotic m/m series The Pembroke Eve Chronicles will be run every 60 days, starting on February the 15th with the first part: "Shadows of the Mind." Whoot!
Never fear, each part can be read as a stand alone, too, but best read in succession to get the full character arc for each person in the book. The stories are seperate, with each book having something different happen to the charact... Continue reading ...

Oh, my, I have been overwhelmed with the wonderful support of people who have enjoyed my books/stories. Nothing, and I mean, nothing warms my soul more than hearing how readers react to my works, and to be honest, they don't even have to be gushing praises. Feedback, good honest feedback, is worth gold. Again, thank you!
A lot of you have been enjoying The Pauper's Prize, saying how you love my take on the fairy tale. It has always been a goal of mine to write a fairy tale, seems I hit the r... Continue reading ...

The Cadet's Officer is a best seller in the sci-fi category over there at All Romance eBooks. What a thrill to see one of my stories in the charts. My publisher has told me the sales are very nice, too :-) Can't ask for better than that
Here is the link to see that nice star next to my title. The star means a best seller. *grin* Or you can go here to get a blurb and synopsis and a direct link to my publisher if you so wish.
Oh, and for those of you who want to win a copy of it, drop me a line.... Continue reading ...

Well, for those of you who didn't know (and I think I shouted it out so loud from every roof top the neighbours thought I was insane LOL) I won NaNo this year!! That gives me two wins in three years now...
The book, The Nourisher, took over and virtually wrote itself. I think I notched up nearly 5000 words in one day at one stage. Very rare for me! I am pleased with the overall story arc, and yes, there will be sequels, the characters demanded it!
Anyway...what now? Well, I have sent said nove... Continue reading ...
I have come across an interesting discussion, one that basically boils down to, why are GLBT books labelled as alternative? Surely in this day and age we can have them standing proud in their own right, not hiding behind or lumped with other genres. GLBT books should have their own category in their own right and be as mainstream as traditional romance. They sell well enough.
Yes, GLBT books have 'heat' levels, but really, that's not the same when they are lumped with other genre books. Ho... Continue reading ...

I am so excited and extremely happy for so many of my author friends getting their work published, some for the first time, others enjoying continued success. Some have decided to go the traditional route and got their work published by old fashioned publishing houses, others (like me) have found success in the eBook market. Congrats to (in no particular order), Bosley, Patty, Wendy, Linda, Gracen, Tierney and so many more I have forgotten to mention but you know who you are.
There are many pa... Continue reading ...

I watched both Robot Chicken Star Wars specials on DVD with the kids over the weekend.
I have to say, they (the creators of the show) have pretty much reinvented the characters of Darth Vader and the Emperor. What they have done is made the once evil characters (and some could say 2 dimensional) more human! The Emperor is a whiny so and so who complains all the time and no one takes him seriously, and Darth, well he's turned into a kind of clown, hanging off the Emperor's cloak!
The same thing... Continue reading ...

Follow me on twitter and I will follow you back :-)
On another note, I am really pleased with how my NaNo novel, The Nourisher is coming together. I have been creating a writing storm these last couple of days and I have to say, not only can I see the finish clearly, I have ideas and an outline for two more novels that could be considered sequels.
I noticed no one commented on the first chapter I posted a few days ago. That either means, A) no one read it B) it's so bad no one wanted to commen... Continue reading ...

Just a quick update for my NaNo adventures of this rather hectic month.
It seems real life, my hayfever, and everything else is trying to interfere with my NaNo progress this week. Sure, I'm still on target, but hey, it's been a tough battle this week, let me tell you.
I have planted down 33500 words or so, which is where I should be, but that's only because I was a little bit ahead of my word count. I haven't written any new words for a couple of days. *sigh* As I said, it's not for the lack ... Continue reading ...

Sorry I haven't been around for the last few days, but real life has been kicking me upside the head! Usually it's my muse that does that. Not this time. Work has been hectic lately--pre Christmas rush I assume. I have been doing 12 hour shifts all this week. *sigh* not good for NaNo month at all. (although I am still on target for getting my word goal--how, I don't know *giggle*)Anyway, hopefully back to some normality. It has been interesting to see that my first novel Call of the Hunted ha... Continue reading ...
Well, having read quite a lot of sci-fi and fantasy in my time (and romance) I have to say, that there are a lot of male lead characters out there who are, and I can put it no other way, hunks. They have rippling muscles, tanned skin, gorgeous faces, etc, etc, blah, blah. They are also intelligent and honest and all goody goody. Hardly any flaws at all!
Now, don't get me wrong, we all like looking at beautiful people (sales of tabloid magazines attest to that) but in real life, what would be ... Continue reading ...

My next release will be Shadows of the Mind. It's looking like a February the 15th release date at this stage. I can't wait.
The cover above is a mock up, but I'll post the publishers cover as soon as I get it. I have sent in my cover request to eXtasy's new cover artist and I can't wait to see what she comes up with for the book.
So stay tuned. I'm excited about this release because, not only is it a story that was a sheer joy to write for me, it's my first full length novel, too. Continue reading ...

I have done about 20,000 words for my NaNo novel now. I am up to the part of the book where it's all action, action, action! I love it. The scenes have been set. The characters have been introduced and the plot is pretty much laid out. Now it's a race to the finish.
That's what I love about writing. Watching something I've created come to life. Continue reading ...
Sorry I didn't post yesterday, but I had a full 12 hour day at work! Yuk! Typical...I'm getting all these extra hours during NaNo month. Okay, I'm not complaining, the money is nice, but sheesh, my muse is giving me hell.
On another note, and to the point of this post, there has been a lot of discussion lately about erotic content in books. How far is too far? Okay, sure, there are the usual things, no sex with minors, no rape (or only off-scene if relevant to the story line), no sharp objects... Continue reading ...

Well, the first week of NaNo is over.
I have planted down 15,100 words and I have to say, things with the story are really moving along nicely. I am in a rhythm with it, and even though, as I have said before, I am doing this for NaNo, I would have done the same if it weren't November. The story is just taking me over, and I am really enjoying writing the two main characters.
So...
Here's a little bit more about this book that has gripped my muse to within an inch of her life :-) And driving me... Continue reading ...

Yesterday I had a rather lovely email conversation with my editor (eXtasy books) and the upshot of it all was, and this is from the owner of the company, "When is Mark Alders' next release?" It's great to hear such things, and really, when people are waiting for my next release that gives me a sense of joy I cannot describe. Of course, you all know my next release is on the 15th of Feb, now don't you ;-)
All my efforts have been worth something it seems.
Speaking of writing efforts, my current ... Continue reading ...

It's official, Shadows of the Mind will be my next release. At this stage it's looking like a February 15th release date. I will let you know when I get the cover from my publisher. I can't wait.
Shadows of the Mind is a full novel, my first to be published with eXtasy. All the other releases have either been novellas or short stories, so really this release has me the most excited. I can't wait to see reader/reviewer reaction. I think it's one of my strongest stories yet, with characters tha... Continue reading ...
The 10,000 word mark. Yep. That's basically where I am at with my NaNo novel. It has kind of possessed me, and really, I don't think I needed the added incentive of NaNo to write the amount that I have.
My muse gets like that. Suddenly and without warning it will command me
to write thousands of words a day until the story is spent. Other times
I can't get two words out. Funny, isn't it? Bloody muse...I think she's
a woman and I think she's a bitch, too...just kidding! LOL I love my muse. She... Continue reading ...

Romance novels are 50,000 - 60,000 words. We love finding new writers.
So, we'd really like you to write a 50,000 word novel for RR.Although
we publish just about every category of erotic romance, our readers are
anxious for more M/M/, paranormal and menage. We'd love to see more
science fiction erotic ro... Continue reading ...

Just a quick post today, basically updating my NaNo progress. It's been what, three days? The word count should be around the 5000 mark at that stage, and yep, I've done it. Just a shade over that. Happy. Happy. Happy.
The story is actually coming along nicely. I have decided to read and edit what I have written in the morning and the plant down the words at night. This is stopping me from going off on tangents. Always a good thing when it comes to writing novels anyway.
So far so good. Continue reading ...

Today is a public holiday in Melbourne. For those who don't know, it's Melbourne Cup Day, a day where at about midday, a horse race stops the nation. I am having a family BBQ and I tell you what, the weather looks good outside. Perfect.
I would like to thank "T Hayes" and "Sheila Gallagher" for leaving such wonderful comments on my Of fans and Fiction post. The post where if you commented you could win an eCopy of The Pauper's Prize.

It's perfect weather here for writing for the first day of NaNo (being in Australia I am 11 hours +GMT) All foggy and cold. Great to stay indoors.
So why a NaNo false start for me? Well, I opened my windows words 2007 file and stared at the blank screen for a little while (I always seem to do that, it's a kind of ritual I do to help clear my thoughts and get on track) I began typing the title of my work "The Nourisher" and added my name. Gee, that's a few words already and I haven't even begu... Continue reading ...

About Me
My name is Mark Alders. I live in a house. This house has a street in front of it which is a good thing because if it didn't I wouldn't be able to drive down to the shop and purchase the chocolate I need on a daily basis *giggle*
Seriously, I am a mild mannered post office worker by day and an erotic romance writer (mainly male/male) at night. Not much else to say other than, like everyone else, I have bills to pay, a mortgage and family that I love and drive me crazy all at the same time. Oh, and I have a dog, too!
See?
Average Joe...except when I get down and write...then I let my imagination go to places I never knew existed and my characters invade my mind.
