Attack of the Killer Plot Bunny

Posted by Mark Alders on Friday, March 26, 2010, In : General thoughts
I was merrily writing away yesterday when a dreadful thought occurred as I grabbed a cup of tea and rolled over in my mind what I had just written.

I had gone off on a tangent!

I became seduced by the lure of a plot thread that really had nothing to do with the flow and direction of the main plot. Yes, I had encountered the dreaded plot bunny. That little critter burrows its way into prose and can create a convoluted and twisted plot which, if left alone, can destroy manuscripts as easily as ...

We Interupt to Bring You an Important Message...

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, In : General thoughts
For those of you who know, I am an intactivist. What's that I hear you ask. Well, to put it simply, it means that I believe in genital integrity for both girls and boys. I believe the child has a right to their own body. Parental consent is NOT consent.

Squeee! The Awards are Baaaack!

Posted by Mark Alders on Friday, March 19, 2010, In : news
The Rainbow Awards are back this year! I won second place in the fantasy category last year with "The Pauper's Prize." Am I going to enter this year? You betcha! Here's the run down for those of you who may be considering entering.

Enjoy :-)

From the LiveJournal entry of the Awards host, Elisa Rolle and copied with permission:

To avoid some complaints on how rushed past edition was, I decided to start the process a little earlier ;-) So, the Submission process for the 2010 Rainbow Award starts...

Plot Problems

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, In : Thoughts on Writing
Aside from having no plot, there are a few things that really irk me, and here is where I will tell you about them.

1) Villains who explain their plans! C'mon, this sort of stuff is for kids shows and the realm of cartoons, yet you'd be surprised (or not) how many times I come across this sort of 'bad plotting'.

2) The villain falls in love with the hero/everyone falls in love with the hero. For me this borders on a 'Mary Sue' kind of plot. A story where the author is plainly living out their ...

My Health and the Silver Lining

Posted by Mark Alders on Sunday, March 14, 2010, In : news
More on my health today seeing as I have been in hospital and back and forth between the doctors these past few days.I woke up Saturday morning and my urine was blood. I went straight to the doctor who sent me straight to the hospital. The upshot of it all was that I had a clot in my left kidney, and my body was giving me hell. I was in so much pain.

There is a bright side. I am no longer on any medication! Why? Because my body is passing the clot naturally and I don't have DVT anymore...

Light of the Body Cover Revealed

Posted by Mark Alders on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, In : news
And what a stunner it is. I would like to publicly thank Angela (the cover artist at eXtasy) for doing such a great job...AGAIN! What a champion she is!

So, with great pride in my heart, here's the cover of "Light of the Body" coming in April to eXtasy books and the second part of my best selling series, The Pembroke Eve Chronicles.

Feedback welcome :-)

Things are Quiet...

Posted by Mark Alders on Monday, March 8, 2010, In : General thoughts
...Too quiet.

The calm before the storm perhaps. I hate it when life suddenly seems to halt. Editing done. Current WIP finished (except one) But still...very quiet. Even the internet is quiet...

The Intactivist in Me!

Posted by Mark Alders on Sunday, March 7, 2010, In : news
Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away--no, wait...wrong beginning! A while ago I used to run an intactivist web site known as F Club (the 'F' standing for foreskin) Due to some pro circ people petitioning the web host, and peddling their narrow-minded ideology onto those who frequented this blog, the site was shut down.

Since that day I have been receiving heaps and heaps of emails to start the blog back up, in whatever way, shape or form. The support has been overwhelming in fact. Don't forget...

Shadows of the Mind a Best Seller!

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, In : news
I awoke to some fantastic news this morning! Shadows of the Mind is a best seller, reaching number 5 on the monthly rankings. Not bad for a book that was released mid month on the 15th! Then again, I didn't think I had a snow balls chance in hell to get into the charts. I had some stiff (no pun intended) competition this month. Stephani Hecht, AJ Llewellyn, DJ Manly, Viola Grace and Stone Richards are just stunning authors and a huge congrats to them for making the charts, too.

New Look

Posted by Mark Alders on Monday, March 1, 2010, In : General thoughts
Over the last few days I have been fiddling with my web site (yes, I know I should be writing, but there you go...I'll do some tomorrow, I promise) I wanted a clean, simple template that also enabled me to use some of my banners at the top of the pages without too much clutter.

I like the new look. It's easy to read and means I don't have to resort to using coloured text to highlight things. I think the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) method is the best, and what's more it looks professional,...

About Me

Mark Alders My name is Mark Alders. I live in a house. This house has a street in front of it which is a good thing because if it didn't I wouldn't be able to drive down to the shop and purchase the chocolate I need on a daily basis *giggle* Seriously, I am a mild mannered post office worker by day and an erotic romance writer (mainly male/male) at night. Not much else to say other than, like everyone else, I have bills to pay, a mortgage and family that I love and drive me crazy all at the same time. Oh, and I have a dog, too! See? Average Joe...except when I get down and write...then I let my imagination go to places I never knew existed and my characters invade my mind.
