When its So Right

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, In : General thoughts
Sometimes two men together is so right nothing else could be possible, or even matter. Sometimes a male/male relationship is just so wonderful even the whole world knows it. Whether those men are in a sexual relationship or a platonic one, it doesn't matter, they are meant to be together.

This is why an article I read lately has me "concerned". They
are doing another re-make of Sherlock Holmes (like we need another one). Unfortunately, this new Sherlock 'series' or whatever, will feature in th...

Maverick: Slayer of Slayers

Posted by Mark Alders on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, In : eBooks
I have decided this year to participate in the m/m goodreads writing event, "Love is always write!" This will be the third year in a row I will be offering a free story from a picture prompt! Such fun! The picture is above...very interesting.

The prompt that went with the picture was:  FINALLY! A big budget film! He'd been waiting for this chance, and sure the script was dumb (killing a space worm that spews poison in only jeans w/a sword? Please!) but it was the next step in his climb to suc...

Fetish Fail?

Posted by Mark Alders on Monday, February 27, 2012, In : General thoughts
Oh my, I came across this photo and HAD to comment. I mean, I've heard of fetishes, plenty of them, especially being an erotica writer...but lollipops? What were this studio thinking? Hang on, I can just imagine the application form for potential models.

1) Are you over 18 and have proof of that?
2) Do you like to be photographed naked with other guys in sexual positions?

3) Do you like taking sausage up the back passage?
4) Are you not worried by photographers asking you to do the same thing o...

Sunday, Lovely Sunday

Posted by Mark Alders on Sunday, February 26, 2012, In : General thoughts
This Sunday, I decided to go to a few garage sales (or yard sales as they're sometimes known) I am looking for some cheap outdoor seats, one's I won't mind leaving outside because I haven't paid a lot for them. I certainly don't want to pay top dollar for such a thing by buying new.

Anyway, like yesterday, the weather was hot. Damn hot. Plus there must be a storm approaching because the humidity was almost unbearable. There were plenty of people out and about with very little clothing on, even...

A Long Day

Posted by Mark Alders on Saturday, February 25, 2012, In : General thoughts
Sorry I didn't blog yesterday, but I was called to duty! As some of you know, I am a race starter for little athletics, a job I have done religiously every Saturday morning for the past few years. It's great fun, and I now know a lot of people through it.

Yesterday was a sort of regional carnival, so I had to travel. To top it off, senior athletics needed some help, so while I was there, I agreed to stay. Trouble was, the day was baking hot with terrible winds. I was cooked by the time I got ...

Gotta Love Them Deliveries

Posted by Mark Alders on Thursday, February 23, 2012, In : General thoughts
It's here! One of the dragons figurines I ordered online arrived this morning! Whoot! I have a wonderful new white stone Chinese dragon to add to my collection (and to put in that cabinet I FINALLY got). After all, it is the year of the Dragon, so that's why I went for a Chinese one for my collection. Dragons are supposed to give you luck and good fortune.

Although...if the thing did bring me luck in the truest sense of the word the delivery man would have been a stunning twink ready to get h...

The Next Step

Posted by Mark Alders on Thursday, February 23, 2012, In : General thoughts
Bookstrand has removed ALL self published books from their site today due to the ongoing saga about content and how credit card companies and paypal will no longer support sites who sell books deemed to be 'objectionable'. Seems the next volley has been fired, so as a result, I have taken my self published works off All Romance eBooks as a precautionary measure. They are still there, but not visible to the public. NO MY SELF PUBLISHED BOOKS WERE NOT ILLEGAL. No, they didn't have content in th...

Is Erotica Dead?

Posted by Mark Alders on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, In : eBooks
I received a letter yesterday from All Romance eBooks. Seems self published books are being targeted, as I knew they would be with all the fuss that's been going on lately about content and covers. ARe want to separate romance into Erotic Romance and Erotica. Now, this may seem harmless, but let me explain from what I think will happen from this move by ARe.

Here is their definition of the two categories:

Erotic romance is a Romance containing frequent, sexually explicit love scenes. The main ...

How Does This Sound?

Posted by Mark Alders on Monday, February 20, 2012, In : eBooks
I don't normally do this, but I have decided to post the first part of the first chapter of the WIP I am penning right now. Please note: This is UNEDITED and in the rawest stage, the getting words on paper stage. But suggestions are welcome. I feel it's a bit too much info dump, but what do you all think?

  Chapter 1

Aznan slipped the transfield moderator into auto, enabling his ship, the disguised medical frigate Orinoco, to pass into slipstream on approach to Brona without difficulty. The...

I Haz Kittehs

Posted by Mark Alders on Sunday, February 19, 2012, In : General thoughts
As some of you know, I haz Kittehs! I got them on Saturday. There is, of course, a story with their purchase. Now, over the course of last week I have been searching the local net based selling sites. I came across an adorable cat for sale, but it was out in the country. In the end I decided the cat was too adorable to pass up on so I contacted the owner and made arrangements to pick up the kitten on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday afternoon came and I drove for over an hour to go get this cat. W...

Connection Failure

Posted by Mark Alders on Saturday, February 18, 2012, In : Thoughts on Writing
I am currently watching two series on DVD. One is Farscape and the other is Stargate: Universe (SGU). For the purposes of this post, I want to talk about the later and why, as a whole, it fails and how one can apply the lessons learned from that failure so it can be avoided, especially when you pen a story.

Now, SGU has a great plot, well written stories and looks fabulous (good looking characters aside). So what's the problem? Why did it get canned after only two seasons when the other starga...

What's Right With Self Published Books

Posted by Mark Alders on Friday, February 17, 2012, In : General thoughts
Yesterday I discussed what was wrong with self published books. Being fair, today I want to talk about what's right with them.

Sometimes self published is the only way to go for writers who crave to be published. And that's where being self published can be a good thing. Generally, an author who has tried every avenue, only to meet a brick wall, can self publish his/her work. AND IT WILL BE GOOD!!!

Why?

Because these sorts of authors, the ones who have passion, the ones who want to be read an...

What's Wrong With Self Published Books?

Posted by Mark Alders on Thursday, February 16, 2012, In : General thoughts
I have a very important issue to discuss today. I know, everything these days is an important issue, but there you go. The topic of today's blog is about self published books that are flooding the market, especially on Amazon and All Romance eBooks and why erotica authors should be very afraid.

So what's the problem, I hear you ask?

Well, to put it simply. Regulation. Self published books are not regulated. Most, if not all, publishing houses have rules and guidelines they enforce so that cert...

The Vicar of Passmore is Out Now!

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, In : eBooks
My first EVER romantic comedy is out now--that's right, no aliens or freakish happenings...okay, there are some freakish people in this one...but all within the bounds of what can happen here on earth in the right now :) I'm so excited to have it released and I hope you all enjoy my humour in this story, and read it with a smile on your face. Yes, as is my trademark, there is nakedness and foreskins, but the sex in this one is lower than what I usually write. Don't ask me why. The characters ...

Posted by Mark Alders on Sunday, February 12, 2012, In : General thoughts
With Valentine's day fast approaching, and me telling you about my mall adventures instead of showing you cute guys kissing, it's time to make all that up. Today, I give you some boy on boy lip action.

Cut or Uncut...Hotdogs?

Posted by Mark Alders on Saturday, February 11, 2012, In : General thoughts
While in that mall the other day (and after observing those bulging mannequins I spoke about in the previous post) I decided I needed a hotdog for lunch, as you do. Now, when I approached the Wendy's stand in the centre of the food hall section of the shopping mall, I was confronted with a board full of choices. Confused, when it was my turn to be served I gave up and just said I just want a hotdog.

She asked, "cut or uncut?"

Nooooowwwwwwwwwwww...can you imagine what went through my mind!

Of Mannequins and Men

Posted by Mark Alders on Saturday, February 11, 2012, In : General thoughts
Okay, I was at the local shopping mall the other day and I passed one of those fashion shops--you know the ones, where they have mannequins which are all about 10 sizes thinner than the general population and a pair of jeans wouldn't go over most people's ankles, let alone their waist line. Anyway, these mannequins were being 'dressed' and were in varying degrees of undress as I walked past. The picture above is a good representation of what I saw in that shop window.

I'd never noticed before...

Traditional Romance?

Posted by Mark Alders on Thursday, February 9, 2012, In : General thoughts
I wanted to write about the RWA (Romance Writer's Association) writers' contest that was announced where no m/m stories could be submitted because it's not 'traditional' romance or some such rubbish like that. Unfortunately, because of public pressure and the proverbial shit hitting the fan the whole thing created, even outside the GLBT community, the RWA pulled the contest so that no one can enter. They offered a half-assed apology to justify their (to me) rash reaction to the whole affair.

My Thoughts on (Gay) Marriage

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, In : General thoughts
In the lead up to Valentine's Day I will be talking about all issues relating to gay relationships. The biggest at the moment is gay marriage. So here are my thoughts.

First, it has come to light here in Australia that an email (believed to be from the Australian Marriage Equality people) sent to (many) coalition MP's about the issue of gay marriage. It states:

"Marriage is about eligibility not equality. A dining room setting cannot be complete without tables and chairs. Two tables can never m...

Also, with Valentine's Day fast approaching, remember, love is love! Let's end the bigotry, the homophobia and the hate. Let the world know who you love, give him something, too!

Of Spas and Foreskins

Posted by Mark Alders on Friday, February 3, 2012, In : General thoughts
My partner wants to buy a spa...if Devin Moss (pictured) came with it, there would be no question. Nuff said LOL.

Now...I want to talk about a topic near and dear to me. You know what I mean. Yep...foreskins! Seems to have come to my attention that in ALMOST every book I read in the m/m genre, no matter where it's set, ALL the men in them are cut!

W.T.F

People, if you're writing a book with a character from a culture which does NOT circumcise their boys, say like 70% of the planet, then please...

That is until it’s discovered the foreskins of male Brona secrete a substance which has miraculous curative properties for humans.

Dragons! Oh My!

Posted by Mark Alders on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, In : General thoughts
Yes, I collect dragons. Don't ask me why, I just do. It gives me joy to collect pieces which really get me going on a level I can't describe. I don't have many, but the ones I do, I love. No, I am not like that TV show American Pickers where if you come to my house there's flotsam of dragon junk lying all over the yard and in delapidated out buildings.

Like I said, I only have a few, but enough to now warrant me buying a lovely glass and white lacquered wood cabinet to display them in. So the...
