A little bit of a rant today...and it has to do with 'so-called' review sites. Seems anyone can set up a blog, get their hands on some books and post reviews for them. That's all fine and good. Unfortunately, for some...and one in particular which I have had the mis-fortune of coming across lately, seems to think that they can behave in a less than professional manner and still expect to be seen as a legitimate 'review' site.
Let's face it, not everyone is going to like your work. That's a fact. But when a reviewer clearly doesn't understand the books, mis-spells the authors name and gets the sex wrong (and my name is Mark, so I find that so blatantly rude it's become insulting), then alarm bells start ringing!
Every word written by the reviewer made me lose more and more faith in their ability to be objective. Or, in the very least, be subjective in a way which would put across their thoughts without sounding like they had no clue...I mean, to write "If you're not into uncircumcised then this won't be for you" just reveals the reviewer has no idea about men and the rest of the world. To say such a thing is narrow-minded and reveals their stupidity beyond belief. Clearly the reviewer has no idea about how the world is...Every word after that was the reviewer harping on about their ignorance and I just couldn't read on.
I will avoid this review site with a passion. Clearly the review site does not want books from authors in other countries besides America. Clearly the review site only wants formula stories or stories where vampires glitter and are twilight rip-offs. Clearly the review site is a try hard wanna-be and failing miserably.
I am Mark Alders, writer, intactivist, post office worker, and all round nice guy...except when someone steals my chocolate!
